A TOTO Washlet Buying Guide
OK, let’s cut the crap about saving the trees and the environment. You are here because almost everyone you know is talking about how great is their new bidet toilet seat. And you are feeling a little left behind if you don’t get one soon. Just kidding :).
Of course, you’ve heard about the benefits you can reap from these bidet seats. Besides doing away with the paperwork, it gives you a cleaner and fresher feeling. And you will never risk another incident of finger-breaking-through-the-toilet-paper ever again.
While that sounds great, the downside is that you will bleed your wallet profusely. And you may already suspect, these TOTO washlets are never cheap. It can cost more than all the regular two-piece toilets in the house.
But you are unfazed by that; you are determined to get one no matter what. So you started researching TOTO Washlet and only to discover there are way too many models to look at. And the reviews you have read are not helping to choose the right model; you need a little hand-holding.
You are at the right place because this article will walk you through the entire range of TOTO Washlet. At the end of it, you will better understand the beautiful features of these TOTO bidet seats. Then, picking out one that suits your needs and budget will be a breeze.
Let’s go.
O’ wait. Before you get all confused with the term WASHLET (just in case you see this word for the first time), it is TOTO’s way of saying smart bidet toilet seat, or simply bidet seat. Please carry on 🙂
TOTO Washlet – The Full Range
Overall, TOTO has about 22 models of its entire range of washlets, including two integrated bidet toilets. The lowest range starts with the A100, right up to the feature-rich S350E and S550E. These are the washlets you can adapt to your existing toilet, regardless of brand.
Then you have the G400 and G450, which are tankless toilets integrated with the washlet. Though they are not in the same league as the Neorest smart toilets, they can provide the desired comfort and aesthetics in any modern bathroom setup. And both are great space savers too if you have a small bathroom.
If you are replacing your old toilet and intend to use a bidet seat, the Washlet+ is not an option to achieve the desired aesthetics and is much easier to clean. Given the accompanying high-end bidet seat and the whole host of toilet features unique to TOTO, the Washlet+ provides great value for your dollar.
Now, to help you with a better idea of all the TOTO washlets, here are the base models categorized into their respective class.
TOTO WASHLET – Base Models
- A100
- A2
- KC2
- C2
- C5
- C100
- C200
- K300
- S300E
- S350E
- S500E
- S550E
- G400
- G450
These base models are for your easy reference. They will have their variations (if any) and part numbers. So, instead of remembering the part number like ‘SW3036R’, isn’t it easier to say ‘K300 with eWater+’. Or, instead of ‘SW3074T40#01’, pretty sure you would rather say C2 Washlet+.
Of course, they will have similar features, whatever the variations are of any base model, except maybe for K300. There are two models of K300, one with the eWater+ feature and the other without. The rest of the models are differentiated by their part numbers for round and elongated shapes and as a Washlet+ model.
And to help you choose the perfect washlet model without feeling overwhelmed, it is imperative to know the features first. After which, you can easily pick the model with all the preferred features and within budget.
The Bells and Whistles
No two washlets perform the same. It all depends on what features are built into the bidet seats. The more features there are, the more expensive it gets.
So what are the features of TOTO washlets?
Some of the features are basic and essential for a washlet. And usually, the basic models will have these primary functions as an entry point. The rest of the features are optional or unique to TOTO, depending on the model. So that gives you the flexibility to choose what you need, limited only by your budget.
Here are all the features with some unique to TOTO bidet seats that are not found on other brands.
Other Features
- Auto Open/Close Lid
- Dual Action Spray with Oscillating and Pulsating Feature
- Automatic Air Deodorizer
- eWater+
- Self-Cleaning Wand
- Instant Water Heating System
- Warm-air Drying with Variable Temperature Settings
- Slim Seat Design
- Wireless Remote Control
- Two User Settings
- Water Premist
- Night Light
- Washlet+ (Formerly Connect+)
As you can see, the wealth of the TOTO Washlet feature covers almost every aspect of the imaginable toileting experience. All in the name of Hygiene and Comfort.
So before considering the more advanced models, first-timers can always start with the basic A100 to experience what a TOTO washlet can provide. But a word of caution here: there’s no going back to the toilet paper once you try it. It is that good.

Features Explained
Some features are self-explanatory, but a few may have puzzled you, like Washlet+, eWater+, and Premist. Here’s what they are:
Washlet+ is a concealed supply connection that hides the power cord and water supply hose. It makes a seamless installation with a neater look overall. And cleaning the toilet is so much easier without the power cord and supply hose dangling in the way.
The Washlet+ is not only for an aesthetic purpose but also for protection against the curious little hands or nibbling by pets. So it’s not all about the looks; it’s also for safety reasons.
Important Note
All Washlet+ washlet models are designed to go with a T40 bowl. More information below.
eWater+ is actually electrolyzed water. If you don’t have a clue of what it is, here’s a clear explanation from Wikipedia.
Electrolysed water is produced by the electrolysis of ordinary tap water containing dissolved sodium chloride. The electrolysis of such salt solutions produces a solution of hypochlorous acid and sodium hydroxide. The resulting water is a known cleanser and disinfectant / sanitizer.
– Wikipedia.org
And Premist is having the bowl surface sprayed with water before taking a dump. The film of water over the glaze surface helps reduce stubborn waste smear and assists in eliminating waste better. This feature is extremely helpful in getting a clean bowl with every flush.
Finally, the heart of all TOTO washlets, the wand or nozzle, provides the main function of washing. The oscillating and pulsating feature provides a rhythmic water burst to clean up your delicate rear. The soothing and refreshing feeling will make you forget about the hefty price you have paid.
Good-to-Have Features
While the basic model is good enough, it may not be adequate for some users. For example, if hygiene is the top priority, the auto open and close lid for a whole hands-off experience is invaluable to reduce contamination probability through contact.
And if you need to keep the toilet sanitized at all times, the top-end models use eWater+ to clean the wand and bowl. You will get clean, fresh water for washing and an odorless bowl every time. The eWater+ is safer and more effective than bleach, which will help to raise the bathroom’s hygiene level.
Speaking of the wand or nozzle, you can choose the model with the Self-Cleaning wand function to reduce the frequency of manual wand cleaning. Perfect for those with a busy lifestyle and folks who hate to clean just about anything in the house.
If your pet peeve is odor, you may start with some mid-range models with the automatic air deodorizer. It helps keep the odor under control while dumping, preventing the smell from filling up the space around. This feature is ideal for powder rooms or restrooms with poor ventilation, like under the stairways or converted unused storerooms.
So, it all depends on how you prioritize your needs and your flexibility on the budget. And now that you have learned the features, you can easily find the perfect Washlet without feeling confused or overwhelmed.
But just in case you are still lost, here’s a TOTO Washlets Comparison table showing Features vs. Washlet Models to further assist you with choosing the best TOTO washlet that matches your needs.

Which Washlet Model Is Right For You?
Still confused with what features and washlet models you want? Let’s look at some of the features that most users favor, and you can base on that to pick a suitable washlet.
The essential features are available on all models, so if that’s good enough, you can choose among the A2, A100, and KC2. It’s pretty straightforward to pick one out of the three with small price differences.
Note: The A2 and KC2 are the newer models.
First Thing First
If you own an elongated toilet, you will have the entire range to choose from. Otherwise, you can find a round bowl model in these base models – C100, C200, S300e, and S350e.
But how do you know your toilet is elongated or round? Make sure you get this straightened out before you begin to choose your ideal washlet. Use this TOTO’s measurement reference to determine the right shape washlet.
Remote Control or Side Control?
There are pros and cons between the side control and the remote. If you don’t want to deal with these situations, the side control is best for you.
- The remote control can be misplaced or stolen (replacement RC can be expensive or discontinued)
- Batteries need to be replaced periodically (pretty annoying if you keep forgetting to buy replacement batteries)
- Hand slip, drop and break it (pray it doesn’t drop into the bowl with content in it)
The models that come with a side control are A2, A100, C2, C100, and KC2.
But you may love the freedom and the modern look with a remote control. Then you may want to skip the basic models and proceed to the mid-range, starting with C5 and C200 models.
Personal Preferences
Once you have determined the washlet shape and your preference for remote or side control, you can begin to choose your washlet with the rest of the features according to your preference.
It will be an easy decision when you have an open budget. The top-end models will have all the bells and whistles. Especially the hygiene features, nobody would mind a germ-free bowl and wand.
But if you are still not sure where to begin, like they say, start in the middle. So go to the mid-range first.
And if Auto Open/Close seat and lid, eWater+, and Premist (with eWater+) are features you desired, look for S350e and S550e. Or you may do away with the auto seat and Nightlight due to budget, or you feel it is not worth the price, then consider the S300e or S500e.
Other than the Auto Open/Close seat and Nightlight feature, the S300e, S350e, S500e, and S550e have similar features.
What is the Difference Between S350e and S550e?
In a nutshell, both have similar functions but differ mostly in seat design. The S350E is still the slimmest with a 3-15/16″ height than the S550E Contemporary at 4-13/16″. The S550E Classic seat is even thicker at 5 inches, and its appearance is quite similar to S350E with a beveled edge along the top side of the lid.
Except for the round seat S350E, the difference in width and length is only a fraction. The S350E round seat (model SW583#01) is shorter by almost 2 inches.
Both the S550E Classic and Contemporary washlets are elongated seats. You have only the S350E (model SW584#01) if you need it for a round seat.
The S550E has higher power consumption than the S350E. You are looking at a high 1288W versus a low 835W of the S350E washlet. And the S550E remote control is slimmer with all touch sensing buttons and an LCD screen on the back. It looks very much sleeker than the RC of S350E.
So that’s about all the differences between the S350E and S550E. And not forgetting the S300E and S500E, you will see similar differences.
TOTO G400 Versus G450 – What Is The Difference?
Fancy a tankless bidet toilet combo with a friendlier price point than a full-fledged intelligent toilet? Then you may want to consider the G400 and G450. Though technically these are toilets, TOTO classifies them as part of the Washlet family. So since we are discussing the entire range of TOTO Washlet, we might as well include them.
Though the bidet features are not as extensive as the S350e or S550e, it can still provide great convenience and comfort, like the TOTO’s signature Neorest. Hygiene is decent with the self-cleaning wand, Premist, and auto-open/close seat.
However, both models do not have the eWater+ feature.
These two bidet toilet combos have been deemed a filler between the expensive Neorest and the high-end tank and bowl toilet. And looking at the prices of the G400 and G450, the assumption is quite reasonable when both would cost around $2500 apiece.
So if the Neorest toilets are a little far-fetched on the budget, the G400 and G450 are two great options to take in. Excellent flushing power and not lacking in features of a standard TOTO washlet.
So what are the differences between the G400 and G450?
- First off, the G450 is a newer version with a better water economy of 1.0 GPF compared to G400’s 1.28 GPF.
- Size-wise, the G450 is a little shorter at 27-1/4″ versus 28-5/8″ of the G400.
- A new standard Tornado Flush is used on the G450. You can learn more about this new tornado flush in this Neorest NX review.
- The G450 uses an instant water heating system resulting in a slimmer bidet seat, setting its overall height at only 21 inches. A more streamlined design than the G400, which uses a tank-type heater. The G400 has an overall height of 26-15/16 inches.
Other than these differences, both toilets have similar features.

Avoid This Common Mistake
Before you get all excited and eager to hit the buy button, please check if your toilet is suitable for the washlet model you have chosen. This step is easy to neglect and a common mistake people make. It’s a real bummer to go through the frustration later when you discover the washlet won’t fit on your toilet.
So what do you need to take note of?
First, you need to check your toilet bowl dimension. The image below shows the dimensions you need to measure for an elongated or round bowl.
You may not have the distance exactly as shown. But as long as the difference is not more than +/-0.25″, generally, the washlet should fit.

The important thing to note is the distance from the bolt hole center to the tank. It must be at least 1.75″ (or 44.45mm). And it has to be a flat surface, or else you will have a problem sitting the washlet properly (See diagram below).

If your existing toilet is a TOTO, you may want to download this TOTO Washlet Fit Chart for your easy reference.
Don’t Buy a TOTO Toilet and Washlet Separately
Don’t rush to buy a TOTO toilet, and then take your time to choose the right bidet or Washlet to match. Because there’s a thing called WASHLET+.
If you have spent a ton on your bathroom decor and refuse to let the ugly power cord and water supply hose spoil the aesthetics, then the Washlet+ is not an option. So, what is a WASHLET+?
Or more precisely, What’s the difference between the WASHLET and the WASHLET+?
The WASHLET+ is NOT an advanced version of the Washlet. It is a Washlet designed specifically for the T40 bowls to better organize and conceal the supply connection. For example, the C2 has an original version and a Washlet+ version with the respective part number as SW3074 and SW3074T40. And both versions will have exactly the same features.
So if you already own a T40 bowl or going to change your existing crapper to a Washlet+ toilet, look out for a Washlet that has “T40” in the part number, just like the C2 Washlet+, SW3074T40#01.
How Does a T40 bowl look like?
Be prepared for that ‘Duh’ moment. Any TOTO toilet with a T40 bowl will have an additional hole on the bowl top just next to the bolt holes for the seat. Its purpose is to let the water hose and power cable pass through from underneath, thereby hidden when the washlet is mounted onto the bowl.
Otherwise, the power cable and the water hose will have to be exposed to the side of the toilet to connect to the bidet seat. That’s not very eye-pleasing and not so safe for the curious kids.
Therefore, the difference between a WASHLET and WASHLET+ lies in the toilet the washlet is supplied with. If you like the idea of having an opening on the toilet bowl to better organize the cable and hose, then consider getting a WASHLET+ toilet.
How do you choose a WASHLET+?
In almost every TOTO toilet model, there is a corresponding Washlet+ toilet. For example, if you like the Drake, there should be a Washlet+ with a particular Drake toilet model and a Washlet model of your choice.
There are over 200 toilet models to choose from, including the popular Aquia, Drake, Carlyle, Ultramax toilet series, the wall hung models, and more. So if you intend to buy a TOTO toilet and a bidet seat, give the Washlet+ a thought. You will love the neat installation that makes cleaning a lot easier.
All TOTO toilets with this mark will have a T40 bowl that offers a concealed supply connection with the Washlet.
Washlet And Bowl Compatibility – T20 or T40 Bowl
If you own a Washlet with the part number containing “T20”, the replacement washlet you plan to get should also have the “T20” in the SKU string.
For example, if the washlet model is S350e with the part number SW584T20#01, it will not match a T40 bowl. You can either buy the same model or an alternative Washlet with “T20” in the SKU.
All latest Washlet+ toilets are using the T40 bowl.
Some older Washlet models are made for the T20 bowl and may have been discontinued. If you have an obsolete model that needs to be replaced, please contact TOTO USA or its dealers for parts and technical support.
Minimum Water Pressure
The water pressure to operate all TOTO washlets, including the G400 and G500, is 7.25 psi to 108.75 psi. The minimum is rather low, so you should have no problem staying within range. The water pressure of a typical home is between 20 psi and up to 125 psi.
But what is more important is the volume. You can have normal pressure, but if the pipe diameter is very small, due maybe to corrosion, your volume will suffer. And that can affect the washlet performance.
The maximum recommended pressure for a residence is 80 psi.
You can easily check your water pressure with a pressure gauge, like the one on the right. Simply screw the pressure gauge onto a hose bibb and turn on the supply to the maximum, and you get the reading right away.
Easy Installation
To operate the washlet, you will need a power supply of 120V with ground fault protection. If you don’t have a power outlet around the toilet, you will have to install one within reach of the 3-foot power cord.
Other than the electrical part, everything is pretty intuitive. If you have replaced or installed a toilet seat before, you will have no problem installing a TOTO washlet. The installation manual is easy to follow, and in no time, you should have everything set up.
Here’s a 2012 video from TOTO showing how to install a washlet. The video may be old but still applicable.

One Benefit Not Many Are Aware Of
A washlet can provide you with many benefits. Such as better hygiene, gives you a cleaner and fresher feel, saves the environment … Yawn
OK, sorry for sounding like a broken record, but here’s one benefit you ought to know.
Do you know what clogs up your toilet or pipings? Answer – Toilet Papers.
Yes, you heard right. You may not believe it, but toilet paper can jam up the flow in a pipe or the toilet trapway. Ask the plumbers.
The truth is, we all love that extra strong and soft toilet paper because they are gentle on our skin and yet will not break easily. And because of that, toilet paper may not dissolve well or as fast. So over time, there will be build-up and eventually causes a blockage.
But not saying you should stop using the paper altogether. Just not to use it excessively. (Yea, that’s easy for anyone to say. If you have a large family, it’s absurd to even think about reducing usage.)
Well, now you can. Perhaps you may not even need toilet paper anymore when you have a TOTO washlet. The thoughtful design in its cleaning features results from decades of experience and continual development. It cleans better than toilet paper. It really does.
So, if you have one too many clogs to deal with, a TOTO Washlet could well be the solution.
Ready To Change Your Toileting Experience?
The trend has spoken. More and more Americans are now more open to the idea of using water to clean up their “Act” versus the age-old toilet paper.
According to a 2016 survey by KOHLER, three in five Americans think washing with water would give them a cleaner feel than those squares of paper alone.
It’s about time.
You are here shows you are ready for a whole new toileting experience. And the best way to start is none other than getting a TOTO Washlet that has decades of experience. You can’t go wrong.
And if you would have noticed, most of the TOTO washlets are receiving great reviews on Amazon. It shows that users are happy with the product’s benefits and value – a cleaner, fresher feeling. And no more toilet papers.
Time to dump the toilet papers away (not into the toilet please). Get your desired TOTO Washlet model today. You will love it!
I am debating buying either the K300 or the C200. Any advice?
Hi Ray. I’ll go for the K300 for its slimmer look and the continuous supply of warm water (ceramic heating system).
Martin
Any strong advice on decision between G400 and a neorest 500. It seems that the G400 also has CeFiONtect… Also, being that I’m only 5′ 1″ a shorter height toilet is appealing. Any strong considerations? Thanks. Jan 2018
Hi Ina.
Of course the Neorest 500H is perfect for your physique if cost is no object to you. But if you don’t mind using a squatty potty then G400 can save you over $1200. 🙂 But bear in mind they are not in the same class.
You made a good point about, really the toilet-paper’s price are going through the roof, and its very tough to keep buying these expensive things every month!
