WASHLET+ Bidet Seats
Feature-wise, WASHLET+ bidet seats are identical to the respective base models. For example, the C2 Elongated bidet seat (SW3074) has a WASHLET+ model, SW3074T40. The first obvious difference here is the model number that ends with ‘T40’.
However, not all WASHLET models will have a WASHLET+ model. So, how do you decide whether or not a WASHLET+ is more appropriate for your needs? Surely, there are differences between the two.
WASHLET VS. WASHLET+ – What’s the Difference?
A Purely Aesthetic Reason
The WASHLET+ bidet seat is designed to match a TOTO toilet, more specifically known as a WASHLET+ Integrated Bidet Toilet. It is designed in such a way the bidet hose is adjusted to go through an opening next to the bolt hole of the bowl ensuring it remains straight without any kinks. Thereby, both the cable and the water hose are hidden when the seat is properly installed.
So, unless you own a WASHLET+ toilet, the bidet models without the ‘T40’ are the right bidet seats for your existing toilet. Only the WASHLET+ toilet will have an opening for the bidet’s cable and hose. That means the WASHLET+ bidet seat is usually either purchased as a replacement or comes with a WASHLET+ toilet.
But can you use a WASHLET+ bidet seat on a non-WASHLET+ toilet?
TOTO has not explicitly advised against installing a WASHLET+ bidet seat on non-WASHLET+ toilets, suggesting it may be possible. However, compatibility varies across different toilet brands and models (even with TOTO’s own).
For absolute certainty, it’s wise to reach out to TOTO USA. Be prepared to provide your toilet’s brand and model when you make the call, as this information will be essential for determining compatibility.
Keep in mind, though, that the desired aesthetics of a WASHLET+ system won’t be replicated. You will get a setup with the cord and hose visibly dangling at the side. For a truly integrated look, consider upgrading to a WASHLET+ toilet, where design and functionality blend perfectly.
