Outstanding Features For Your Benefit
You probably know a thing or two about toilet washlet. But no two washlets perform the same. It all depends on what features are inbuilt into the washlet. The more features there are, the more expensive it gets.
So what are the features of TOTO washlets?
Some of the features are essential for a washlet. And usually, the basic models will have these primary functions as an entry point. - Washlet+ (Formerly Connect+)
As you can see, the wealth of TOTO Washlet feature covers almost every aspect of imaginable toileting experience. All in the name of Hygiene and Comfort.
First timers can always start with the basic A100 to experience what a TOTO washlet can provide before switching to more advanced models. But a word of warning here, once you try it there's no going back to the toilet paper. It is that good.
Some features are self-explanatory you can intuitively figure out what they are. A few may have puzzled you, like Washlet+, eWater+, and Premist.
Washlet+ is a concealed supply connection that hides away the power cord and water supply hose. It makes a seamless installation with a neater look overall. And cleaning the toilet is so much easier without the power cord and supply hose dangling in the way.
The Washlet+ is not only for an aesthetic purpose, but it's also a protection against the curious little hands or nibbling by your pets. So it's not all about the looks, it's also for a safety reason.
All Washlet+ washlets fit only certain TOTO toilet models. More information below.
eWater+ is actually electrolyzed water. If you don't have a clue of what it is, here's a clear explanation from Wikipedia.
Electrolysed water is produced by the electrolysis of ordinary tap water containing dissolved sodium chloride. The electrolysis of such salt solutions produces a solution of hypochlorous acid and sodium hydroxide. The resulting water is a known cleanser and disinfectant / sanitizer.
And Premist is having the bowl surface sprayed with water before you take a dump. The film of water over the glaze surface helps to reduce stubborn waste smear and assist in eliminating waste better. With this feature, you will find it is extremely helpful in getting a clean bowl with every flush.
Finally, the heart of all TOTO washlet – The wand. The oscillating and pulsating feature provides the short water burst to clean up your delicate rear after you are done dumping. But don't worry it won't hurt a bit. In fact, it is the gist of the entire experience that makes you forget about the hefty price you have paid for it.
While the basic model is good enough for some users, they may not be adequate for others. It all depends on your needs. For example, if hygiene is your top priority, then you may want the auto open and close lid for a whole hands-off experience. So you can minimize the possibility of contamination through touch.
And the eWater+ is useful for sanitizing the bowl after each use. Thus, raising the hygiene level further in your bathroom. Of course, not forgetting the self-cleaning wand which will provide clean spraying water every time. And yes, eWater+ is also used for cleaning the wand.
If odor is a problem, consider having the automatic air deodorizer. It helps to keep the bathroom air fresh and pleasant. So the next person need not have to wait for any odor to dissipate before using the toilet. Precious time saved. This feature is ideal for bathroom or toilet with poor ventilation, like the one under the stairways or a storeroom previously.
There are other features which you may find beneficial. You just have to pick out from the clutter. And that will help you narrow down to the right model. Of course, if you like all the features the S350E, S550e classic or S550e contemporary are the right choices when you have an elongated bowl toilet.

Which Washlet Model Is Right For You?
Still confused with what features and washlet models you want? Don't worry about it. Let's look at some of the features that most users favor, and you might take away with the right washlet model.
The essential features are available on all models so you can skip those and focus on the optional features. Except for A100 & C100, the rest of the models come with wireless remote control.
If you have set your eyes on Warm Air Drying, Automatic Air Deodorizer, and Premist like most users do, you are zeroing down to just 2 models – C100 & C200. But between the 2, highly recommend going with C200. The price difference is quite reasonable, and when you are lucky you may get the C200 at almost the same price as the C100 model.
All Low to Mid Range TOTO Washlets
And if Auto Open/Close Lid, eWater+, or Self-Cleaning Wand are what motivates you to look for a TOTO Washlet, you are looking at S300E, S350E and the new S500E and S550E. These 4 models will have almost all the features among them. But of course with a much higher price tag.
So among the 4, which one has better features?
S350E & S550E have 2 features which are lacking in S300E & S500E. They are the Auto Open/Close Lid and Night Light features. So if either the auto lid or Nightlight is a must-have for you, you are down to the S350E & S550E. Price wise, expect to see a difference of around $100 to $200 between the S350E and S550E.
What are the differences between S350e and S550e?
In a nutshell, both have similar functions but differ mostly in the seat design. The S350E is still the slimmest at 3-15/16″ in height compare to the S550E Contemporary which is at 4-13/16″. The S550E Classic seat is even thicker at 5 inches, and its appearance is quite similar to S350E with a beveled edge along the top side of the lid.
Except for the round seat S350E, the difference in width and length is only a fraction. The S350E round seat (model SW583#01) length is shorter by almost 2 inches.
Both the S550E Classic and Contemporary washlets are elongated seats. If you need a round seat, then you have only the S350E (model SW584#01).
The S550E has higher power consumption than the S350E. You are looking at a high 1288W versus a low 835W of the S350E washlet. And the S550E remote control is slimmer with all touch sensing buttons and an LCD screen on the back. It looks very much sleeker than the RC of S350E.

TOTO G400 Versus G500 – What Is The Difference?
If you need a compact gravity fed toilet to fit in your small bathroom and would love to have a bidet seat, then the G400 or G500 is the one to consider. The tankless design is a real attraction compare to the tank and bowl toilets.
Though the washlet features are not as extensive as the S350E, it still serves you well and improves the overall hygiene in the bathroom.
Some folks would deem it as a filler between the expensive tankless (Neorest) and the high-end tank and bowl toilet. And looking at the price of both, the assumption is quite reasonable when the washlet toilet would cost around $2000 a pop.
So if the Neorest toilets are a little far-fetched on the budget, the G400 is the next best option. Excellent flushing power and not lacking in features of a standard TOTO washlet.

Avoid This Common Mistake
Before you get all excited and eager to hit the buy button, please check if your toilet is suitable for the washlet model you have chosen. This step is easy to neglect, and a common mistake people make. It's a real bummer to go through the frustration later when you discover the washlet won't fit on your prize toilet.
So what do you need to check?
You need to check your toilet bowl dimension. Below is a picture of the dimensions you need to measure for an elongated or round bowl. The picture is originally from TOTO's website, and the bolt hole distance (in red) is added for your convenience.
You may not have the distance exactly as shown. But as long as the difference is not more than +/-0.25″, generally the washlet should fit.
The important thing to note is the distance from the bolt hole center to the tank, it must be at least 1.75″ (or 44.45mm). And it has to be a flat surface or else you will have problem sitting the washlet properly (See diagram below).

Don't Buy These Washlets Until You Read This
So you have spent a ton on your bathroom decor, and you refuse to let the ugly power cord and water supply hose spoil the aesthetics. Then the Washlet+ feature is a must-have.
Unfortunately, those washlets with the Washlet+ feature can only fit on toilet models that have the “Washlet+” mark. They are called “WASHLET+ toilets”, which is a washlet & toilet combination. So don't rush off to buy the washlet if you see a WASHLET+ toilet resembling the TOTO model you are having now. They do come with the popular Aquia, Drake, Carlyle, Ultramax series and more.
Only toilets with this mark can be fitted with a Washlet+ washlet.
So the best time to buy a Washlet+ is when you need a new toilet. Of course, you can still buy a Washlet+ washlet separately, but that's when you need it as a spare or replacement.
But what exactly is the difference between a Washlet+ toilet and a regular TOTO toilet?
Be prepared for that ‘Duh' moment. The difference is stupidly obvious. There is an additional hole on the bowl top just next to the bolt holes for the seat. It is for the water hose and power cable to pass through from underneath, thereby hidden when the washlet is mounted onto the bowl.
Minimum Water Pressure
The water pressure to operate all TOTO washlets, including the G400 and G500, is anywhere from 7.25 psi up to 108.75 psi. The minimum is rather low, so you should have no problem to stay within range. The water pressure of a typical home is between 20 psi and up to 125 psi.
But what is more important is the volume. You can have normal pressure but if the pipe diameter is very small, or may be due to corrosion, your volume will suffer. And that can affect the washlet performance.
Nevertheless, it's good to be sure your home water pressure is at least normal, if the volume is not an issue.
The maximum recommended pressure for a residence is 80 psi.
You can easily check your water pressure with a pressure gauge, like the one on the right. Simply screw the pressure gauge onto a hose bibb and turn on the supply to the maximum, and you get the reading right away.
To operate the washlet, you will need a power supply of 120V with ground fault protection. If you don't have a power outlet around the toilet, you will have to install one within reach of the 3-foot washlet power cord. This is the part when you need a qualified electrician to do the job for you.
Other than the electrical part, everything is pretty intuitive. If you have replaced or installed a toilet seat before, you will have no problem installing a TOTO washlet. The installation manual is easy to follow and in no time, you should have everything set up.
Here's a 2012 video from TOTO showing how to install a washlet. The video may be old but still applicable.
One Benefit Not Many Are Aware Of
A washlet can provide you with many benefits. Such as better hygiene, gives you a cleaner and fresher feel, saves the environment … Yawn
OK, sorry for sounding like a broken record, but here's one benefit you ought to know.
Do you know what clogs up your toilet or pipings? Answer – Toilet Papers.
Yes, you heard right. You may not believe it, but toilet paper can jam up the flow in a pipe or the toilet trapway. Ask the plumbers.
The truth is, we all love that extra strong and soft toilet paper because they are gentle on our skin and yet will not break easily. And because of that, toilet papers may not dissolve well or as fast. So over time there will be build-up and eventually causes a blockage.
But not saying you should stop using the paper altogether. Just not to use it excessively. (Yea that's easy for anyone to say. If you have a large family, it's absurd to even think about reducing usage.)
Well, now you can. Perhaps you may not even need toilet papers anymore when you have a TOTO washlet. The thoughtful design in its cleaning features is a result of decades of experience and continual development. It cleans better than toilet papers. It really does.
Ready To Change Your Toileting Experience?
The trend has spoken. More and more Americans are now more open to the idea of using water to clean up their “Act” versus the age old toilet paper.
According to a 2016 survey by KOHLER, three in five Americans think washing with water would give them a cleaner feel than those squares of paper alone.
It's about time.
For the fact that you are here, shows you are ready for a whole new toileting experience. And the best way to start is none other than getting a TOTO Washlet which has decades of experience in it. You just can't go wrong.
And if you would have noticed, most of the TOTO washlets are receiving great reviews on Amazon. It shows Americans are happy with the benefits and value the product offers – a cleaner, fresher feeling. And no more toilet papers.
