But why the need for certainty when there are tons of compact toilets out there. The reason is simple.

That is if you are looking for a compact toilet that could fit into a 30″x49″ floor space.

You want a concealed trapway design, and you have bad knees. So you need a comfort height and round front toilet.

Most important of all, you need a toilet that’s heavy duty to sustain heavy usage. So a toilet that can move a massive 1000 grams sh*t load in a single flush is desirable.

That’s just an assumption. But if that fits your bill then this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet review is for you.

Introducing The American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet

Let’s begin with the features of this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet. One of the top selling water closet on Amazon.

Toilets with skirted bowl exterior is always a hit with users who loves a more streamline design. It gives a sense of orderliness, clean and great aesthetic.

The smooth sided design helps reduce cleaning time, compared to those non-conceal type. There are no lumps and crevices to clean in and around which means you can keep it shining with just a quick wipe down.

Powerful Flush And Clean Bowl Every Time

This Cadet 3 toilet is exceptional from the inside out. It is powerful which uses only 1.28 gallons of water per flush.

Thanks to the siphon action jetted bowl and the over-sized 3 inch flush valve. And with a fully glaze trapway, waste exit the bowl faster and cleaner.

And not forgetting the PowerWash rim which scrubs the bowl with every flush. Removing any sticky waste that causes skid marks if left to stay.

With American Standard’s exclusive antimicrobial EverClean Surface finish, the bowl surface stays clean always. It’s function is to inhibit the growth of odor-causing mold, mildew, stain and bacteria.

And a large water surface area makes it difficult for sticky waste to adhere to the EverClean surface. So bowl streaking is not a frequent sight.

Comfort Height In A Small Space

American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise toilet is a right height or tall height design. It’s bowl rim is at a comfortable chair height level. Which means you don’t have to bend as far, with less strain on your knees.

The round front bowl is a space saver if you have a small bathroom space. You only need a 49″ front-to-back space and a 30″ left-to-right space to fit in this Cadet 3 toilet.

It also comes with a top mount slow-close seat and cover. Which has the easy lift-off feature for quick removal and reattachment for cleaning.

What Makes Up The Cadet 3 Flushing System

A good flushing system requires calculated coordination among the components.

It allows water from the tank to enter the bowl quickly and siphon out the waste in a timely manner. And refill the bowl ready for the next flush. All in all with just 1.28 gallons of water.

The 3″ flush valve, siphon jetted bowl and glazed trapway are the 3 main components that make up the powerful Cadet 3 flushing system.

Together with the PowerWash rim and EverClean Surface finish, waste is removed completely without a trace. Ensuring a clean flush every time.

Siphon Jet Action

Siphon Jet Action

Brilliant Engineering

Starting from the size of the flush valve to the bowl design, every part is carefully engineered.

The glazed trapway and bowl jet provide a strong siphon action. While the rim holes are positioned to give wide coverage of the bowl surface. Resulting in a clean and efficient rinse.

Every Cadet 3 Toilet is thouroughly tested before rolling out from the production floor.

Exceeding Industry Standard

The larger than usual flapper or flush valve is 3 inch in diameter. Which is an inch larger than the standard 2 inch as seen in most regular toilets.

With this large valve opening, the water enters the bowl quicker. Giving the needed power for the PowerWash rim to scrub the bowl surface efficiently.

The wide 2.125 inch glazed trapway then siphon the water and waste out into the drain below, with ease.

And thanks to the 2.125″ glazed trapway, the probability of clogging is rather remote. With a MaP 1000 rating, it is evident that the Cadet 3 Flushing System does work and with great efficiency.

Does Cheap Plastic Ruins An Otherwise Great Toilet?

The toilet seat that comes with this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise toilet received the most complaints.

‘Cheap plastic’ & ‘flimsy’ filled up most of the negative reviews. That’s how they describe the now discontinued 5281.110.020 slow close seat.

Actually it’s the seat cover that’s flimsy but the seat is fine.

Still, it’s not good enough.

However, American Standard may have replaced it with a better quality seat. There aren’t any complaints since the previous year. But don’t assume they do as they still show the old seat model on their product page.

If you have bought this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet recently, be sure to check the quality before installing it.

An exact model replacement seat will cost you around $40 at Amazon. Though not a heart burning issue, it is rather ridiculous considering the quality.

There Are Better Quality Seats

If you need a replacement seat, you may want to take a look at this Cadet 3 Slow Close Round Front Toilet Seat. Which seemed of a much better quality.

The model number for white is 5345.110.020. While 5345.110.021 & 5345.110.222 are for Bone and Linen respectively. They are coated with the EverClean Surface finish, which is more hygienic.

This is definitely a much better toilet seat for this Cadet 3 Flowise toilet, and cost less than $50.

One Important Step Before The Installation

The installation for this American Standard Cadet 3 toilet is quite straight forward.

Like most concealed trapway design, always mount the toilet seat first before anything else. Otherwise it can be quite a struggle to do it later with very little free room to access the mounting bolts.

This little step is always overlooked even by experienced plumber. And usually the toilet has to be removed just to install the toilet seat.

Now that you know, remind your plumber and show him the installation manual before he begins his work. So that he understands your concern and not waste any time later.

This Simple Test Is A Life Saver Before Sh*t Hits The Fan

One important step you may want to take before the installation is to test the flushing. This is to make sure the toilet has no internal defect which is not visible from the exterior.

But aren’t they already tested in the factory before shipping to the customers?

There was a case where a user bought a Cadet 3 Flowise toilet and it didn’t flush well right after installing it. What followed was a series of trouble shooting trying to nail down the source of the problem.

So with all the checks done, which include removing the toilet to check the drainage for clogs. Nothing seems unusual.

After hours (maybe even days) of fault finding, the user found a plastic sleeve in the siphon jet tube. That was quite unexpected considering the stringent quality checks promised by American Standard.

The plastic sleeve is the culprit which obstructed the water flow in the siphon jet tube. This impedes the siphon action which leads to a failed flush.

Without a doubt, there are lapses in quality control along the entire supply chain. And not ruling out American Standard’s own QC management.

It was good that the user made a video of the flushing problem and the steps he took in trouble shooting. The video was sent to American Standard and he received a full refund of his purchase in the end. Here’s the video.

How to test the flushing?

It’s a very simple setup which your plumber can help if you asked. Or you can do it yourself before the installation (See image on the left).

You are simply placing the toilet over a bucket, or any support that is stable and water could flush out freely.

This is a good test to make sure all the rim holes and passages in the bowl are free from blockages. And also the proper functioning of the mechanism in the tank.

You can watch how the test is carried out in the video (starting from 4.38 minutes onward).

And DON’T FORGET to video the entire test process! You’ll be glad you did if you get a defective toilet (go touch some wood).

Also make sure you check the drainage outlet for blockages as well. (See video – starting from 2.24)

So go ahead and ask (nicely) your plumber to help you with the test before the installation. You may have to pay a little extra, but it’s worth it. Or do it yourself, it’s just a simple set-up.

Even though the chances of receiving a defective toilet are slim, it’s better to be safe. It’s extremely frustrating to know the toilet is faulty after the installation.

Keep Your Eyes On These Disadvantages

Disadvantage No.1

Bear in mind this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet model is a round front toilet. If you are a large build person, it’s going to be pretty uncomfortable sitting on it.

If you have a choice go for the elongated model.

Further more, this is a space saving toilet designed for small bathroom.

Disadvantage No.2

While there’s the good of how easy it is to keep this toilet clean, replacing the toilet seat can be a challenge.

So remember, if you are not too happy with the free seat, get a better one and put it on at the start.

Disadvantage No.3

The installation manual is rather misleading. With only a few diagrams and little description. If this is your first toilet installation, you may encounter some difficulties.

Unless you are a seasoned DIY-er, it’s better to hire a plumber for the job. And remember, American Standard won’t guarantee anything if it’s due to installation.

Their stand is you are always responsible for your own installation.

Disadvantage No.4

There’s no color choice. It’s only available in White.

Customer Reviews

There are some decent reviews by users from Amazon. But the number of reviews are a little low to form a definitive conclusion for this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet.

Only 49 reviews at the time this post was written. (Check out the latest Customer Reviews on Amazon.)

The comments from the 5 stars reviews are for the concealed trapway design, great aesthetic and easy installation. With emphasis on the powerful flushing and clog-free operation.

The second biggest group of reviewers are the 3 stars reviews. They provide more or less a balance opinion about this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet.

The negative aspect is on the toilet seat quality and difficulty encountered at installation. Due mainly to inadequate or unclear information on the installation manual.

The 4 stars reviews accounted are quite like the 5 stars reviewers’ opinion. This group is usually more cautious with the rating. Perhaps one star was reserved on the belief that no product is perfect. And their experience with the sale process was also taken into consideration.

If you combined this group with the 5 stars reviewers, you get a better feel of how this Cadet 3 toilet fared for performance, appearance and cost.

And the 3 stars will help you keep tabs on the possible drawbacks should you decide to get this toilet.

The 1 star and 2 stars reviews are the usual complaints about broken toilets and poor seat quality. With some expressing their dissatisfaction with the customer service they encounter. These reviews do not offer anything constructive about the performance of the product. But you can learn from their experience even though they are in the minority.

Overall the reviews are lacking in numbers to affirm any positive conclusion.

But if you are contemplating on this compact Cadet 3 toilet, do consider the proprietary features unique to American Standard. Like the PowerWash rim and EverClean Surface finish. This 2 features have proven to work well with other American Standard toilet models.

And for the fact that this American Standard Compact Cadet 3 Flowise Toilet has earned a MaP rating of 1000, it can’t be that far off for money well spent. Click here for the latest Customer Reviews on Amazon.

This review is for the round front bowl model. You can apply to the elongated model as well. Since the features and specifications are identical.

The only difference is the length. The elongated model is longer by 2 inches.

If you have that little extra space on the front (2 inches at least), go for the elongated model. You will love it.
